Does CoderPad Track Tab Switching?

Yes. Both CoderPad products notice when you leave the coding area. In CoderPad Interview (live pads), the interviewer gets an alert. In CoderPad Screen (take-home tests), leaving the test shows up in your report.

What CoderPad Interview tracks

CoderPad's own guidance for live interviews says it alerts interviewers when a candidate "Leaves the IDE (e.g., tab-switching)".

After the interview, the playback bar marks those moments. The docs describe orange dots where the candidate's "browser is no longer focused on the IDE." The interviewer can click a dot and jump straight to that point.

One detail that surprises people: CoderPad says opening the browser console also counts as leaving, because the console is technically a different tab.

What CoderPad Screen tracks

For Screen tests, CoderPad lists "Leaving the IDE" as one of its automatic detection checks: "We can tell if candidates have left the test environment."

Companies can also turn on full-screen mode. If it is enabled, you must enter full screen before starting. If you exit full screen or switch to another monitor, an alert triggers after a 10-second grace period.

You are told about this up front. Every Screen candidate sees a welcome screen with an anti-cheating warning before the test begins.

What the hiring team sees

In Screen, the recruiter's candidate report includes notifications of candidates leaving their IDEs. Code playback also shows when you left the coding environment.

In Interview, the interviewer sees the alert live and the orange dots afterwards. CoderPad does not say that it records which site or app you switched to. The docs only describe the fact that you left.

What this means for you

A single tab switch is not an automatic fail. CoderPad itself tells hiring teams that "Pasted code and leaving the IDE does not always equal cheating." Its Screen docs say the same about suspicious behavior in general.
