Knowing a stranger will rewatch your interview adds pressure to an already stressful hour. So it helps to know exactly what Karat keeps.

Here is the straight answer.

Yes. Karat records every interview. The video call, audio, your code and a full code playback are recorded and shared with the company you applied to. Turning your camera off does not stop the recording.

Karat's candidate FAQ spells it out: "The entire video call, including video and audio, your code, and a full playback, is recorded and shared" with the hiring company.

The Interview Engineer also writes a structured report that goes along with it.

What if you turn your camera off

Karat strongly encourages candidates to keep their camera on. It says live video helps the Interview Engineer engage with you and supports its quality control.

You can still choose not to appear on camera. Karat says candidates "may simply turn off their camera during the interview."

That does not switch off recording, though. Karat's customer FAQ says all Karat interviews, "including the interview audio and code playback," are recorded either way.

What the hiring team sees

After the interview, the company gets the recording plus a summary of how you did on each question.

In Karat's results dashboard, hiring teams have a Video tab with the full video recording, a synchronized replay of the coding environment and a time-stamped guide. How long Karat keeps it

Karat says it "deletes candidate data upon the request of the candidate or after a maximum of 5 years from the date of the interview."

So your recording is not kept forever, and you can ask for deletion. Karat does not say publicly how long each individual hiring company keeps its own copy.
